MCG sets Aug 31 deadline to remove disorganised overhead cables in Gurugram

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has directed all broadband internet and cable TV operators to rectify improperly installed overhead cables across the city by August 31, warning that non-compliant lines will be removed without further notice. The order follows a review in which the civic body found unorganised, low-hanging and tangled cables on electricity and streetlight poles in several areas, which officials said were spoiling the city’s appearance and posing safety risks, especially to two-wheeler riders and pedestrians.

In its directive, MCG has barred operators from leaving loose cable bundles hanging on poles, mandating that all wires be laid in a straight line, enclosed in proper cable boxes and firmly clamped to the structures. The corporation has also made written permission from Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) mandatory for using power and streetlight poles for network deployment, and has warned that cables left disorganised after the deadline may be cut and removed in coordination with the electricity utility, with full responsibility falling on the service providers.
