India tightens satcom security over Starlink, OneWeb, SES signal spillage

India’s home ministry is delaying final security clearance for Starlink, Eutelsat‑OneWeb and Jio‑SES because of concerns that satellite beams may extend beyond national borders, creating surveillance and interference risks. This “signal spillage” scrutiny reflects New Delhi’s push to ensure that new LEO and GEO broadband services can be tightly geo‑fenced, monitored in sensitive border zones and fully compliant with data localisation and lawful interception rules.
