India Today made headlines by launching Sana, the nation’s first AI anchor, who presents news updates in multiple languages and has become a regular feature on prime time broadcasts, demonstrating the company’s commitment to innovation and efficiency in journalism.

Doordarshan Kisan, the government-run agricultural channel, introduced AI anchors Krish and Bhoomi, who deliver critical information to farmers in up to 50 languages, operating 24/7 and breaking down language barriers for rural and remote audiences.

Odisha TV’s AI anchor, Lisa, further advances regional broadcasting by presenting news in Odia and English across television and digital platforms.

ABP News Network has deployed AI-driven virtual assistants that provide personalized news updates and interactive content to over a million subscribers, enhancing user experience and accessibility. Similarly, Zee News integrates AI and data analytics to deliver real-time, data-backed insights and accurate election predictions, setting new standards for political journalism and viewer trust. Collectively, these initiatives highlight how AI is enabling Indian broadcasters to automate routine tasks, expand multilingual reach, personalize content, and ensure uninterrupted, high-quality news delivery.

Beyond anchors and automation, AI is also revolutionizing the technical and creative aspects of broadcasting. The TruthTell Hackathon, a flagship initiative under this challenge, is designed to address the critical need for transparency and trust in journalism by fostering the development of AI-powered tools for real-time fact-checking and misinformation detection in live broadcasts. Organized in collaboration with the India Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA) and supported by the IndiaAI Mission, this global challenge invites innovators to create solutions that detect and flag false information across text, images, videos, and live streams.

Multilingual and multi-format capabilities are central to the hackathon’s winning solutions, which include tools that detect deepfakes and false news in multiple languages and provide real-time credibility scores using advanced AI analytics. These solutions integrate seamlessly with broadcasting systems, offering automated alerts and interactive dashboards that enable journalists to correct inaccuracies during live events swiftly. The hackathon has attracted widespread global participation, with over 5,600 teams from more than 60 countries registering, including a notable 36 percent representation from women, reflecting a commitment to diversity and innovation.

India’s AI-driven transformation is not without its challenges. Issues such as algorithmic bias, data privacy, misinformation, and the need for robust regulatory frameworks must be addressed to ensure the responsible use of AI.
