Doordarshan launches Rs 14.5 Crore UHD production upgrade

Doordarshan has initiated a ₹14.5 crore project to establish an end-to-end 4K (Ultra High Definition) production ecosystem as part of its ongoing broadcast infrastructure modernisation.
A tender has been invited for the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of a UHD file-based workflow system. The proposed facility will enable seamless content ingestion, editing, storage, quality control, archiving and transmission within a unified 4K environment.

The project is designed to create a centralised digital production backbone, allowing multiple editors to work simultaneously on shared media assets while integrating media asset management, quality control and playout into a single streamlined workflow. The broadcaster expects completion within six months of the contract award.

Doordarshan has also revised the tender schedule, with technical bids now set to open on July 21, instead of the earlier July 17 deadline.

This UHD workflow initiative forms part of a broader technology upgrade programme. In parallel, Doordarshan has invited bids for robotic cameras, robotic heads, track dollies and full-frame mirrorless cameras to further strengthen its production capabilities.

The investment is expected to enhance operational efficiency, accelerate content production and support the wider rollout of 4K content across Doordarshan’s network.
