BES Expo 2026 backs ‘Make in India, made for the world’ vision

BES Expo 2026 put the spotlight firmly on India’s ambition to become a global broadcasting technology hub under the theme “Make in India, Made for the World.” The session on “Opportunities in Broadcasting,” chaired by Dr Rajkumar Upadhyay, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman Board at C-DoT, explored how policy, standards and manufacturing must move in lockstep if India is to design, build and export next‑generation broadcast solutions rather than simply import and integrate them.

Speakers stressed that indigenous innovation must be conceived at global scale, with products engineered from day one for international markets, interoperability and export compliance—not just domestic deployments. That requires stronger policy coordination between the information & broadcasting, telecom and electronics ministries, common technical standards that reduce fragmentation, and deeper local manufacturing capabilities so Indian companies can reliably serve overseas broadcasters and platform operators. Multiple participants also underlined that “Atmanirbhar Bharat” in broadcasting will depend on partnerships that travel beyond India’s borders—co‑development with global OEMs, joint R&D with universities, and integration into international value chains.

C-DoT used the platform to move from vision to concrete offerings, opening up a portfolio of developed technologies to industry and startups. These included full set‑top box platforms, subscriber management systems, conditional access systems, IPTV solutions and other advanced broadcast tools, bundled with hardware reference designs and complete source‑code support. The aim is to give Indian OEMs and young companies a ready technical base they can customise, productise and export, instead of each player reinventing core building blocks.

A recurring theme in the discussion was that none of this can scale without robust telecom and digital infrastructure. As India pushes toward self‑reliance in broadcast and media tech, participants noted that resilient fibre backbones, data centres and 5G networks remain the backbone for cloud‑based playout, OTT distribution, converged broadcast–broadband models and future direct‑to‑mobile services. The session closed on a clear takeaway: with the right mix of policy support, indigenous platforms and industry collaboration, India can build world‑class broadcasting solutions at home and increasingly supply them to global markets.
