Powering India’s vast entertainment and infotainment industry

Technology evolves at lightning speed, and it dramatically impacts everything it touches; the world of broadcast and entertainment is no different. The entire gamut of innovative advancement possible in this industry remains elusive most of the time, except for one unique occasion. The Broadcast India Show has become the interactive platform that showcases, on one hand the paradigm shifts in infotainment technology across the globe and on the other, it allows the visitor to connect with the innovators, and experience the marvels first-hand.

The 29th edition of the Broadcast India Show, which concluded its three-day run from October 17–19, 2019, in Mumbai, had a record performance, hosting 11,098 visitors from 36 countries, a 20 percent increase over the previous year. The event brought together 500 leading brands, displaying state-of-the-art technologies in film, television, pro-audio, 3D, broadcasting, digital cinema, radio, mobile, IPTV, and VR technology, and business solutions from across the world and within the subcontinent for the media and infotainment industry.

Organized by NürnbergMesse India, the event was inaugurated by Subhash Ghai, eminent writer, director, producer, and founder and chairman, Whistling Woods International; Walter J Linder, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany; Ujwal Nirgudkar, Oscar Academy member and chairman, SMPTE India; Bernhard Steinrücke, director general, Indo-German Chamber of Commerce; Peter Bruce, director APAC, IABM Pte. Ltd.; Satish Aggarwal, president, All India Broadcast Manufacturers and Distributors Association and managing director, Visual Technologies India; and Sonia Prashar, managing director and chairperson of the management board, NürnbergMesse India.

The conference sessions posed as learning and networking arm with the leading knowledge leaders of the industry. Keeping the theme in check, Next-gen Technologies in Broadcast Media and Entertainment Industry, various trending topics, such as new way of thinking about cybersecurity and blockchain for media industry, OTT versus traditional broadcasting in India, driving innovation and change in cinema production and distribution, the next-gen immersive experience in broadcasting – tracking the future, artificial intelligence – raising the bar in the media and entertainment, were covered.

Rajat Nigam, group CTO, Network 18, asserted that Broadcast India has always been a sought-after technology show for the industry professionals. The broadcast industry is in transition and moving from traditional to next-gen media. The role of technology has also been changing over the years.

Technology was earlier offering support functions, and then it became an enabler, and today it is a driver. Hence, all new technologies on display and demonstrations provide extensive exposure to the professionals of the broadcast industry. This makes the Broadcast India Show a relevant platform.

It is expected that Broadcast India Show 2020, next year will make way for the next-gen broadcast technology – faster, easier, more productive, and definitely more creative ways of working with broadcast, film, audio, radio, and everything else that contributes to the infotainment industry – from its content creation to its management and delivery.
