Star India To Launch Star Sports 1 Marathi Channel

Star India has got the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting nod to launch two new regional channels – Star Sports 1 Bangla and Star Sports 1 Marathi.

Star India will be renaming Star Movies Kids and Star Movies Kids HD as Star Sports 1 Bangla and Star Sports 1 Marathi respectively as the MIB has granted permission on Star India’s application for the name change.

Meanwhile, Sun TV Network too has been permitted to rename Udaya News / Udaya Varthegalu and Gemini News as Sun Marathi and Sun Bangla respectively. A total of four applications have been considered for name changes.

Star Sports 1 Bangla has been launched on March 5 with an Rs.19 (MRP) subscription.

Star Sports Marathi will be the fifth addition to Star Sports regional bouquet, which already has Star Sports Tamil, Star Sports Telugu, Star Sports Kannada and Star Sports Bangla on air in addition to Star Sports 1 (English) and Star S. Star Sports Malayalam is also in the pipeline.

Star Sports will anyway bring the Indian Premier League broadcast LIVE with Malayalam language feed on Asianet Plus SD.

Star India MD Sanjay Gupta in December had mentioned that the launch of Star Sports 1 Kannada will be followed by Star Sports 1 Malayalam, Star Sports 1 Bengali, and Star Sports 1 Marathi. While the Malayalam and Bangla sports channels have been launched successfully, Marathi channel is next in the pipeline.

“We launched Star Sports in Hindi followed by Tamil. Recently, we added Star Sports 1 Telugu. We are launching Star Sports in Kannada followed by Bengali, Malayalam, and Marathi. We are trying to make sports accessible to every consumer in their language at an affordable price,” Gupta had said.

Star Sports 1 Marathi will be the sixth regional sports channel from Star India stable. Currently, Star has five regional sports channels including Star Sports 1 Hindi, Star Sports 1 Tamil, Star Sports 1 Telugu, Star Sports 1 Kannada, and Star Sports 1 Bangla.―Inside Sport
