The Extreme E off-road racing series has continued its media-rights drive through a deal with pay-television broadcaster Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN).
The four-year agreement begins with Extreme E’s inaugural season in 2021 and covers the Indian subcontinent.
The provisional calendar for Extreme E’s debut season includes events in Dakar (Senegal), Al-‘Ula (Saudi Arabia), Mustang District (Nepal), Kangerlussuaq (Greenland) and Santarém (Brazil).
Rajesh Kaul, chief revenue officer of distribution and head of sports business at SPN, said: “Motorsport is gaining significant momentum in India, and Extreme E holds unique appeal for our viewers with its fast-paced action, high entertainment quotient and focus on important global issues.”
Earlier this month, Extreme E signed a three-season rights deal with Malaysian public-service broadcaster RTM, adding to existing agreements with Fox Sports (in US, Canada and the Caribbean), Fox Sports Asia (Southeast Asia), Mediaset (Italy), TVNZ (New Zealand) and BTRC (Belarus).
Further announcements on teams, drivers and series partners will be made in the coming weeks. Extreme E was launched by Formula E founder Alejandro Agag and former racing driver Gil de Ferran. Sports Business
