Sky to launch Sky stream in Germany

Sky plans to launch Sky Stream as a new, central streaming platform in Germany in late summer 2024.

The offering will combine Sky channels, free-TV channels, apps and third-party streaming services on a single user interface. Access will be through a streaming box connected to the TV set via Wi-Fi.

Sky Stream was introduced in the UK in October 2022, followed by Ireland in July 2023. After the launch in Germany, Sky Stream is set to launch in Austria in 2025.

“We are delighted that we can now also offer Sky Stream in Germany and Austria. It will play a central role in our strategy to further expand our business. Sky Stream offers a completely new kind of TV experience and will help our customers find the content they love quickly and easily across different providers,” said Barny Mills, CEO of Sky Deutschland.

A Sky Deutschland spokesman did not want to comment on the question whether Sky Stream will comprise the full Sky lineup available via cable and satellite in Germany and Austria or only parts of it. However, he emphasised that Sky Stream will be “our most important product in the streaming sector”. Sky Q, the Sky streaming service WOW and the new Sky TV, which was recently launched as a cable TV alternative for tenants, will continue to exist, the Sky spokesperson stressed.

Further details regarding Sky Stream are to be announced well in advance of the launch, according to Sky Deutschland. Tech News
