Nexstar Broadcasting Group (NXST) Tops Q2 Earnings and Revenue Estimates

Nexstar Broadcasting Group (NXST) came out with quarterly earnings of $5.56 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $5.19 per share. This compares to earnings of $4.51 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.

This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of 7.13%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this television broadcaster would post earnings of $4.33 per share when it actually produced earnings of $5.99, delivering a surprise of 38.34%.

Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates three times.

Nexstar, which belongs to the Zacks Broadcast Radio and Television industry, posted revenues of $1.25 billion for the quarter ended June 2022, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 0.46%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $1.13 billion. The company has topped consensus revenue estimates four times over the last four quarters.

The sustainability of the stock’s immediate price movement based on the recently-released numbers and future earnings expectations will mostly depend on management’s commentary on the earnings call.

Nexstar shares have added about 26.1% since the beginning of the year versus the S&P 500’s decline of -12.8%.

AMC Networks’ revenues are expected to be $783.01 million, up 1.5% from the year-ago quarter.
