JioAirFiber pan-India coverage within first half of 2024

Reliance Jio on January 19 said that its 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) service, JioAirFiber, will have pan-India coverage within the first half of 2024. The service is already available in over 4,000 cities and towns.

In a statement, the telco said that early signs of demand and customer engagement have been encouraging, and content bundling is driving a ~30% higher per capita usage on JioAirFiber compared to wireline broadband service JioFiber.

Jio also said that about 90 million of its subscribers have migrated to the 5G network, which has been rolled out across India ahead of schedule.

The telco said that Jio True 5G network now carries almost one-fourth of Jio’s mobility data traffic, and the entire 5G data is now carried on Jio’s own 5G+4G combo core.

India’s top telecom service provider by subscribers said it is in discussions with multiple original equipment makers (OEMs) to expand the JioBharat platform further and accelerate the transition towards 2G Mukt Bharat.

JioBharat has over 45% market share in the sub-Rs 1,000 segment.

JioBharat platform now has 3 SKUs or handset models with price points ranging from Rs 999 to Rs 2,599, providing more choices to customers. It recently launched JioPhone Prima, which gives access to YouTube, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Jio Entertainment Apps.

Home-bred handset maker Karbonn is also creating Jio Bharat phones.

JioBharat also supports UPI payments, allowing small merchants to accept UPI payments through the phone, transforming grassroots commerce, and empowering small businesses.

JioBharat comes with value-packed tariff plans. The Rs 123 monthly plan includes unlimited voice and 14 GB of data, which is 30% cheaper than similar plans from other operators.

“Jio has accomplished the fastest rollout of 5G network witnessed anywhere in the world and is now available across India. JioAirFiber has seen strong initial demand and customer engagement, especially in underserved tier 3/4 towns and rural areas,” said Akash M Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm.

“Jio’s ahead-of-the-curve investments in the next-generation networks, digital technologies, and tailor-made products for all customer cohorts will ensure sustainable industry-leading growth in coming years,” he added. MoneyControl
