Internet services disrupted in Kolkata

Cyclone Remal has affected internet services in many parts of the Kolkata city. The trees and poles carrying internet cables all over the city have toppled, following which Internet service providers (ISPs) reported damage to the optic fiber cables (OFC) in multiple locations.

In several instances, the OFC was damaged during the removal of uprooted trees blocking roads. Continuous rain is now hindering the restoration work.

There were also reports of power cuts in pockets, most in peripheral areas where the main line is overhead.

Meanwhile, Kolkata is out of Orange alert status, with the Indian Meteorological Department forecasting some relief from the heavy rains.
