IN-SPACe launches short course in collaboration with ISRO

IN-SPACe, in collaboration with ISRO and prominent academic institutions, has introduced a short-term course focused on key areas of space technology. The course delves into Orbital Mechanics, Attitude Dynamics and Control, Space-Based Navigation and Mission Planning. Participants will gain hands-on experience in various aspects, including mission planning, launch window optimisation and addressing mission constraints. The second edition of this five-day residential programme commenced on December 17, 2023, at the ISRO Guest House in Devanahalli, Bengaluru, according to an official release.

IN-SPACe claims that the course draws on the expertise of experienced faculty from ISRO, leading academic institutions and industry. It combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, providing a foundation for the next generation of space scientists and engineers. Open to academicians, industry executives, graduates, postgraduates and researchers, the course offers in-depth exposure to developing mission profiles, optimising launch windows and navigating the challenges inherent in space missions, the release mentioned.

“The course contents are designed to train participants in developing the ‘brain’ of a satellite, that is, the on-board computer and other systems to enable the satellite to perform autonomously in space. The course aims to empower individuals with the skills needed to contribute significantly to India’s space missions and nurture the next generation of space specialists,” Vinod Kumar, director, promotion directorate, IN-SPACe, said.

The curriculum is designed to equip participants with fundamental principles and hands-on experience crucial for planning and optimising space mission operations. Immersive sessions cover developing mission profiles, optimising launch windows and addressing mission constraints. The course ensures participants gain a comprehensive understanding of core principles necessary for mission planning, execution and optimisation of space mission operations, as per the release.
