Formula E extends India broadcast deal with Sony

Sony Pictures Networks India has signed a new three-year media partnership with Formula E. As part of this extension, all Formula E races will be broadcasted live on Sony’s channels, and live streamed on Sony LIV till at least 2027.

Despite the last-minute cancellation of the 2024 Hyderabad E-Prix earlier this year, Formula E has stressed that India remains a key market for the championship. In line with this, the latest deal with Sony ensures that races will continue to be broadcasted live on TV in the coming years.

Indian team Mahindra Racing has been a part of Formula E since its very inception and the championship’s India connect has been further bolstered this year, with Jehan Daruvala making his Formula E debut with Maserati.

Sony’s OTT platform Sony LIV will livestream all practice and qualifying sessions, along with the races. This coverage will also extend to Afghanistan, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

“With enthusiastic, diverse and young sports fanbase, India is an important growth market for us. As such, we are delighted to have teamed up with Sony Sports Network to supercharge this growth. This partnership guarantees that Indian fans will enjoy unparalleled access to Formula E content. This includes live coverage of every race on Sony’s linear and digital channels, featuring rookie driver and local favourite Jehan Daruvala and their home-grown team, Mahindra, who have been part of Formula E since the first season,” said Aarti Dabas, chief media officer, Formula E.

Sony confirms that it will also broadcast Formula E’s ‘Unplugged’ series. In a similar fashion to Netflix’s ‘Drive to Survive’ docu-series, Formula E Unplugged gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at all the action on and off-track.

2024 Misano E-Prix schedule
Formula E heads to Italy’s Misano circuit for the first time this weekend, with a double-header on April 13 and 14. Both races will be streamed live on Sony Sports Ten 1, Sony Sports Ten 5 and Sony LIV. Autocar India
