Warner Music Engages Top Instagram AR Creator Paige Piskin for Coldplay Higher Power Music Video’s Alien Filter

Paige Piskin, the viral Spark AR (Augmented Reality) creator was tapped by Warner Music to create Coldplay’s first Instagram filter of a #higherpoweralien. In just one year Paige has created the filters preferred by celebrities such as Billie Eilish, Kendall Jenner, Dua Lipa as well as Grimes and Elon Musk who used one to introduce baby AI to the world.

The new Coldplay filter features one of the alien characters seen dancing through a dystopia in the new ‘Higher Power’ music video directed by Dave Meyers that finds Chris Martin swinging with aliens on the fictional planet Kaotica. The hashtag for the filter is #higherpoweralien.

The filter upon launching, was shared by Coldplay in their story and on their feed, and was worn by popular Instagram influencers like Jeferson Araujo (Jepharaujo) with over 1M followers and some of the artists behind the music video like makeup artist Ryan Burke @Ryburk. 

“I’m grateful to have worked on this filter with Coldplay! I’ve loved their music for a long time and it was really fun to get the chance to recreate such a fun character from their music video,” Paige says. “The character was really challenging to replicate but we’re all very really happy with how it came out!”

Paige discovered the Augmented Reality (AR) medium at a talk in the Facebook booth at VidCon in southern California in 2019. She was taught the basics of how the software works by Chris Price from Facebook Reality Labs. A few months later, curiosity got the better of her and she uploaded her first effect; an artistic rendition of Harley Quinn featuring face tattoos and an iridescent sheen.

She quickly rose to the top of the AR community infiltrating the selection of in-app masks on offer with her own gorgeous creations, starting with sci-fi inspired reflective skin effects and creepy clown facepaint before naturally evolving into avant-garde makeup looks, surreal transformations.

“I wanted to make Halloween filters of some of my favorite characters,” Paige explains. “I first started by making creepy clowns, Harley Quinn, cyborgs, and stuff like that and once they got approved and uploaded, I couldn’t believe the positive feedback and how fast they started getting around.”

Her “Lil Icey Eyes” filter, which alters your eyes to a shade of icy blue, including lash extensions to give you an exotic stare, has been worn by singer Billie Eilish, Adam Lambert and a host of others.
