33% price rise for Disney+ as STAR goes live

A monthly subscription has increased by 33.3% from £5.99 a month to £7.99. An annual subscription has increased from £59.90 to £79.90. Existing subscribers have a grace period until 23rd August before the price rise kicks in. The price rise follows hot on the heels of Netflix recent inflation-busting rise.

For the extra cost, viewers now have access to a substantially larger library of films and programmes, thanks to the launch of STAR. STAR is Disney’s new service for grown-ups, containing programmes seen on Fox, FX and abc. New arrivals include 24, Desperate Housewives, Futurama, Glee, Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Prison Break, Scrubs, The X Files and Ugly Betty. Movies include Die Hard, Independence Day and the 1991 Robin Hood film.

New customers can beat the price rise at the moment by using special deals, such as those offered on cashback sites including TopCashback and Quidco. Here, customers can pocket a £10 cashback deal.

STAR is the new Disney’s new adult entertainment brand, to differentiate it from the family friendly Disney brand. FOX branded entertainment services worldwide now owned by Disney are also gradually being renamed. To prepare for this, the STAR brand has been removed from the Disney-owned South Asian channels now broadcasting under the Utsav brand. RXTV info
