IBC2022-What to look for on Day One-Sept 9?

IBC 2022 is very much under starters orders, with more than 1,250 organisations making their final preparations for the start of the long-awaited in-person show. Here we take a preliminary look at some of the key moments planned for Day One (Friday 9th September) of the IBC 2022 Conference, as well as the free-to-attend Showcase Theatre, Innovation Stage and Content Everywhere stages.

India is 3 hours and 30 minutes ahead of Amsterdam, where the show is being held.

IBC Conference: Industry heavyweights
The first presentation should set the tone for the rest of the show, a state-of-the-industry analysis from Peter White, CEO, IABM at 10am. The IABM State of the Industry Report is an annual bellwether report that’ll undoubtedly generate some talking points for the wider industry.

Another key moment will be the 11am “In conversation with Warner Bros. Discovery”, where Dave Duvall, Chief Information Officer, Warner Bros. Discovery, will discuss the company transformation and provide insights into the tech story with Rob Ambrose, Co-founder, Caretta Research. A final big-name presentation will see Markus Gross, Chief Scientist, The Walt Disney Studios throw light on the use of AI at the media giant, in “Bringing Disney to life with AI” at 15:45.

Wrapping up the IBC Conference for the first day will be a discussion around “The power of content synergy with RTL & Deezer” (17:45), which will be followed by inevitably-popular networking drinks.

Showcase Theatre: The power of cloud, Stranger Things
The free to attend tracks in the Showcase theatre kick off slightly later in the day, with a 12:00 start for “Insights from streaming UX: How UKTV’s data-informed culture drives revenue opportunities”, featuring Marie Fenner, SVP of Analytics, EMEA, Piano IO and Andy Isaacs, Head of Data & Analytics, UKTV. This strong start will undoubtedly be continued by a Google Cloud presentation by Anil Jain, Managing Director of Media & Entertainment, Google Cloud and a KPN presentation on digital transformation featuring Just Hut, Director, Media Experience Lead, KPN.

The Showcase Theatre wraps up day one at 17:00 with a closing presentation on “Creating visual effects for Netflix’s Stranger Things” from Urs Franzen, VFX Manager, DACH, Netflix, Juri Stanossek, VFX Supervisor, Accenture Song and Apollonia Hartmann, VFX Producer, Accenture Song.

Innovation Stage: Accelerators and more
Another completely free track for all IBC 2022 attendees, the Innovation Stage does exactly what it says on the tin, beginning the show with a discussion on the value of IP technology for remote live production, featuring experts from NEP Norway, Cisco and Grass Valley at 11am.

At 12:30 the first of the IBC 2022 Accelerators Final Showcase sessions kick off with this fascinating project utilising Blockchain to explore content sharing, micropayments & incentivisation solutions for OTT subscribers.

Later on at 15:45 a second Accelerator – 6DOF audio-led narrative and music experiences in the Metaverse – will take to the stage to explain their journey into interactive audio content.

Content Everywhere: Panels and demos aplenty
The ever-popular Content Everywhere Stage will be hosting a series of expert panel discussions and intriguing technology demos throughout day one, with a 12:00 “Building audiences through better discovery, personalisation and engagement” panel and a 16:00 Panel – “Cloud applications in media & entertainment: what’s next?” set to be among the Day 1 highlights.

Exhibition floor: Thousands of opportunities
Meanwhile, out on the Exhibition floor we can expect the usual hive of activity with stands from the biggest and brightest names in the industry.
