Harris Corporation's Apex M2X now supports DVB-T2 standard
Harris Corporation's Apex M2X software-defined broadcast exciter now supports the next-generation DVB-T2 digital terrestrial transmission standard. The new standard was made possible via a software licensing agreement with the BBC. BBC research & development was at the heart of the evolution of the DVB-T2 standard and was involved in the worldwide implementation. The DVB-T2 standard delivers efficiencies of 30-50 percent in its use of spectrum compared to the DVB-T standard. The Apex M2X exciter works across a wide spectrum of frequencies including UHF, VHF and L band. In addition to DVB-T2, the exciter also supports ATSC, ATSC M/H, DVBT/H, ISDB-Tb, FLO, CTTB, DAB, DMB, CMMB and a wide range of analogue TV standards, including NTSC and PAL.

Grass Valley exhibits its HD file-based workflows
Grass Valley demonstrated its latest high-definition (HD) production technologies at the 15th annual Broadcast Asia 2010 .The product line included the entire line of K2 media server products, as well as the LDK 8300 HD 3X Super SloMo camera system, T2 intelligent Digital Disk Recorder (iDDR), EDIUS real-time HD editing software, and the MEDIAEDGE digital signage and on-demand content delivery platform.

Included in hands-on demonstrations were the Grass Valley K2 Dyno HD replay system, running ChannelFlex, the K2 Dyno production assistant a software platform for managing the content for live event productions, and the K2 Summit/Solo production workstation.

The K2 Dyno is a powerful and cost-effective replay controller, which includes the ability to handle super slow-motion and 3D projects and works seamlessly with the Grass Valley K2 Summit production client and K2 Solo compact media server. The next-generation replay system is designed to help sports producers and other professionals capture live events in crystal-clear HD resolutions and instantly play them out at variable speeds for critical analysis during fast-paced events.  For 3D operations, the left and right eye inputs can be synchronized within a single channel.

The Grass Valley K2 Dyno production assistant extends the capabilities of the K2 Dyno replay system and runs on a typical Windows PC. The platform can support scenarios where a single client provides a global point of content management, as well as multiple clients deployed to directors, media managers, or editors with individual workspace layouts.

The Grass Valley LDK 8300 Live Super SloMo high-definition camera not only operates in 3X speed but is switchable among 1X, 2X, and 3X speeds. It is ideal for all slow-motion tasks in sports production and offers unmatched operational flexibility. Based on Grass Valley's unique HD-DPM+ sensors, the LDK 8300 HD camera can be natively switched between 1080i and 720p formats. The camera's AnyLight feature eliminates flicker caused by artificial lighting and supports third-party digital disk devices for recording and storing HD images.

The Grass Valley T2 iDDR is a next-generation record and playback system that combines advanced nonlinear features (direct, frame-accurate access to content), with VTR-like controls.  It has two-channel synchronized playback for key/fill rolls, edge blended displays, multi-screen, and 3D applications, as well as two playback channels and one record channel, all simultaneously and independently available, supporting full 1920x1080 (60i/50i/24p) resolution, as well as 720p and 480i formats. The IPTV-based MEDIAEDGE platform was also exhibited with new workflow enhancements to the system's server software, set-top box decoders, and live MPEG-4 encoder.
