ImageOn current scenario

We have passed through the recession and things have started looking up. Satellite broadcasting needs to be redefined, and the Indian broadcaster must be provided a comprehensive solution at reasonable cost.

On market and technology trends

In the current scenario, it is important to provide cost effective solutions which will result in low operating cost and higher efficiency. Some of these include, use of MPEG-4 DVB S-2 technology, resulting in 50 percent reduction in bandwidth requirement, use of SSPAs in place of TWTAs high power amplifiers for higher reliability.

On factors driving the market

There are several factors which will drive the market. These include industry friendly government regulations resulting in higher growth. Technologies must be used to give cost effective solutions. Availability of satellite bandwidth continues to cause concern.

On key challenges facing the industry

The single most prominent challenge facing the broadcasting industry is the availability of satellite bandwidth for large number of broadcasters planning to launch new channels. Since bandwidth is not available, the satellite operators have started charging premium rate for bandwidth.

On major policies that are affecting the industry

Government policies must be channel friendly. The procedure is very lengthy for starting a new channel. It takes a minimum of six months to get the requisite permissions.

The future of this industry is very bright. As new technologies, such as HDTV gain popularity, new opportunities will emerge.
