"There will be a marginal slow down on broadcast turnkey business in the next 4-6 months. After which it is expected to stabilize and then rise again."

ImageOn current scenario

Though we are presently implementing three turnkey solutions, it seems that due to recession, there will be a marginal slow down on broadcast turnkey business in the next 4-6 months. After which it is expected to stabilize and then rise again.

On market and technology trends

Indian broadcast market is still largely depending upon MPEG 2 technology and standard definition. Though MPEG4 has caught up in contribution network, for uplinking, majority still prefer MPEG 2. HD format is still to gain popularity due to its cost factors.

On factors driving the market

Indian still has a vast potential in the broadcast industry. There is huge scope for quality, specific and focused channels.

On key challenges facing the industry

There is cut-throat competition amongst equals. Due to sudden and uncalled for recession, overall there is a dip in revenue generation through space selling. Though recent success in IPL and revenue collection therein has proven everyone wrong by creating huge profits, people are a little skeptical for the time being.

On major policies that are affecting the industry

India has a very complicated and long drawn procedure to get the relevant channel permissions. The time factor is sometimes killing and burdens many new channels. Probably the entire system could be more centralized and less time consuming.

On the positive side, the liberal attitude has given a tremendous drive to multiple business houses and entrepreneurs to launch TV channels. A healthy competition will always help the masses in the long run.

On projects in pipeline for 2009-10

We have four major turnkey jobs in hand which will start within next 3-4 months. Mostly are in the final stages of regulatory permissions and negotiations.
